Hair products I'm currently using

Hi guys!

Since going AWOL in June I've had a slight change up in the hair products I am using. Just change for the sake of change. Here are my thoughts :)

I always need some sort of hair serum or oil to be able to comb through my wet hair. I am currently using got2b's "oil-licious" styling oil. Despite the cringey name, this is a decent product. I do really like got2b/Schwarzkopf  products. This hair oil (gifted by mummy so not sure how much it was but goggle would suggest around the £4 mark)does the job well without being too oily. Initially I was using one pump but even if I get too excited and use 2 pumps my hair is still manageable and doesn't feel overloaded with crap.

I don't often use these types of products through my hair when it is dry, but on the few occassions that I have, again, it doesn't leave my hair looking overly oily. (If I do use this on dry hair, I go for not even one pump...teeny tiny is the way to go.)

Next up we have a product that I never thought I'd be writing about on this blog - hair mousse!

The last time I used hair mousse I would have been in secondary school #90skid Wow. Seriously though, hair mousse and gel were the way forward 15 years ago (omg I am old whaaaaaaaat) and everytime I think of hair mousse the word that springs to mind is "crispy". Second word would be, "crunchy". Third word, "no".

But then I heard whispers that hair mousse in the 00's (is that what we call it? I'm confused. The 2000's?) was no longer about crispy and crunchy and so I thought, let me be the brave warrior I am and give it a go.

V05 is often on 2 for £5 in superdrugs so I picked up this Plump it up mousse with my usual heat defense spray. The heat defense spray long finished before I worked up the guts to use the mousse.

I imagined that the first day would be ok but I was more fearful of day 2 hair.

So?
I like it. A lot.

I won't say I love it because I don't use it after every wash but I do reach for it often. This doesn't give me a ton of volume but maybe it poofs me up a bit. but I do like the overall extra control it has on my hair without weighing it down or looking greasy. And when I wake up the day after, my hair isn't much worse than it would normally be (I'm also a bit oily at the roots on day 2 no matter what).

Mousse in general - I will definitely be buying more mousse products in the future. Yay mousse. 

Superdrug has a new (?) own brand hair styling product line out.

I decided that you couldn't go wrong with a 2 for £4 offer so I got two heat defense sprays.

To be fair, I am no expert,  I just assume it is trying its best to defend my hair from heat damage and aside from that, it doesn't do much else.

I am never too sure if this is the sort of product that is better the more money you spend on it.
If you read my blog you will know that I am no brand/product snob, but I know for sure that the more you spend on washing up liquid, hairspray and mayonnaise, the better. I am happy buying a ton of stuff from the 99p store, but when it comes to the aforementione products, it has got to be Fairy, Elnett and Heinz. Heat defense spray? I dunno.

My heart kinda tells me I don't like this particular product. It stings my scalp, but so does Bumble & Bumbles thickening spray and I'm on my second (makes me wanna die expensive) bottle (thanks V!).

I just don't like it. I can't put it into words. (Shit blogger).

On that note, can any recommend me some heat defense sprays and mousse (volume) please?

New hair - another haircut

Hi Guys!

Didn't think I'd be posting anything like this again so soon but last month (end of April) I had another haircut!

It doesn't really translate in pictures but it is short.

I kinda hate it. I kinda really hate it. My dad keeps calling me Auntie and finds it hilarious :(  It doesn't suit my face shape or hair type and funnily enough, this length is really high maintenance.

It gets greasy soooooo quick and needs a lot of straightening. I can't do anything with it a part from have it down. Even when I'm at home I can only top knot the top part. I have to sleep with it out which I hate, but the only way I can tie it all up is by the nape of my neck which then means my stubby ponytail digs into the back of my head when I sleep.

But I'm happy I did this because......it made me feel a bit adventurous. I've been literally wrapped in my comfort blanket of hair for so long, it feels really refreshing to throw that blanket off and face the world.

And of course, hair grows. And mine is growing at a good rate so hopefully by June it'll be nearer to shoulder length and a bit more flattering.

(On a side note - my hair stylist was really impressed with my home dye job!)

New hair - John Frieda's precision foam colour in 4BG Dark Chocolate Brown

So........a while back I said that I was going to grow grey gracefully. And then I just had too many grey hairs in the worst places. On first glance I don't think anyone would notice I had a lot of grey hair but on closer inspection I had a lot of short sticky up grey hairs at the front of my hair line and then loads of grey hair along my parting. Do greys like fresh air or something?!

This was a total impulsive decision. At 5.30pm when I was leaving work I hadn't decided to dye my hair, and by 8pm that night I was head down in the bath trying to dye my own hair.

I was on the search for M&S pistachio cookies in Liverpool Street station (omg amazing mmmmmmmmmm) but they were sold out *sadface and so I ended up in Boots looking for cotton wool pads and somehow I ended up in the hair dye aisle and there was money off John Frieda's precision foam colour and.....yeah. 

I think RRP is £9.99 and I paid £6 something, definitely under £7. 

I wanted a colour as close to my natural hair colour as possible a dark dark brown, and I wanted to avoid a red tint for sure so I went for shade 4BG, Dark Chocolate Brown.

I don't know which moron designed the packaging. Why is the model pictured in black and white? I know they show the hair colour but I'm always interested in seeing it on a person. Anyway. 

The reason why I also went for this is because I was interested in the foam aspect. When I was younger I use to dye my hair quite a lot but my mum always did it for me and I didn't think I would be able to manage. In retrospect I probably could have used a normal hair dye as I have about 70% less hair - damn it in length and thickness - than I did 10 years ago!!

This was easy to use in all aspect. Pop 2 into 1 and slowly tilt the bottle a few times (instructions are much more specific!) 3 is the conditioner so you can forget about that until the end. 

Replace the screw lid withthe foam spraying thing.

Put on the sexy scary black rubber gloves. (Smear your hairline and ears with vaseline first and put on something old first!)

The product in the bottle won't look foamy. Don't panic. DO NOT SHAKE!

You kinda squeeze the bottle and thats how you get the foam. 

My body and bathroom floor didn't come out of this impulse decision too good. Luckily make up wipes sorted out the body dye. Unfortunately, my bathroom floor now has suspect brown stains on the floor....

And then you put the foam in your hair.

The main reason I decided I was going to go grey gracefully was due to my hair loss. I've spoken about this loads here but in case you're new, I'm losing hair like a MOFO. I'm running out of ways to part my hair because from ear to ear it is so thin now :(

There is no scientific proof that hair dye contributes to hair loss but in my mind, the less crap I put onto my scalp the better right?

So I did take a bit of a risk doing this, but like I said, last minute decision....

When I put it on my heart was racing. I was ready to wash it straight off if it didn't feel good but after about one minute of tingly and that horrid hair dye smell I felt like I had a hair treatment in my hair!

I left it in for.....30 minutes? When I was younger I use to leave dye in for maybe an hour due to my 'asian hair' but I decided that I wouldn't take too many risks and tempt the fates and jumped into the shower.

I was pleasantly surpirsed at how conditioning the hair foam was. Instead of being a tangled rat nest I could actually run my fingers through my hair as the water rinsed out the foam. Also, just so you know, it gets all lathering like shampoo when you  wash it out which was nice.  I then used the conditioner that came in the box. It was so crap that I actually gave up half way through and used my own normal hair conditioner.

And I was done. Dyed and not totally bald. But was I still grey?

I dried my hair roughly with the hairdryer but at this point it was nearly 10pm so into bed I went.

Well. There is a colour change but only one that I can see lol so I guess I did a really good colour match when choosing a shade? Too bad I'm not so talented when picking foundation to match my face!!!

I like my new hair but honestly, my greys are still there. Now they are just a caramel colour. Bit annoying and maybe I should just go grey gracefully after all?

I'm really glad I gave this a try though cos the situation was bugging me.

The product was really easy to use and left my hair in good condition (doesn't feel dry at all), so no harm no foul right?

It is really tempting to try again with a normal dye to see if I get better grey coverage but I honestly don't think that will be worth the risk.

Have you used this product or a similar foaming colour before? Any good? Just out of interest, any recommendations for great dyes to cover grey?

Girl gone wild (ombre) again!

Hello hello.....so we meet again.

A total impulse move but I decided on Thursday that I wanted my ombre to be lighter. I had V sleeping over aka live in hairdresser.

There was a 2 for £10 deal in Boots on Jerome Russell products (so I saved about 10p!) soI picked up the blonding kit in medium lift [above picture] and a colour toner [picutred somewhere below]. Sorry about the box - V is an animal :) She did tell me to google image a nice box but I thought that I would keep it real. 

So we brushed out my hair and V mixed up the blonding kit and put it on my hair where it was already ombred, she then wrapped it in foil and she pinned it up to keep it out of the way. Not sure if I mentioned it last time but keeping it wrapped keeps things hot, and heat helps the chemicals to really do the business.

No pictures cos it gets a bit icky but after 30 mins V removed the foil and I rinsed my hair using the conditioning shampoo supplied in the box. We could already tell at this point that my hair was Barbie blonde. V's reaction was "holy f**k!!!".

I towel dried and brushed my hair again and then V plopped the colour toner on my blonde hair. 

V wrapped my hair in clingfilm and I blow dried the cling filmed bit for 5 minutes and then left it for....I can't remember....maybe 20-30 mins? I then got back into the shower and washed my hair using my normal shampoo and conditioner. The best news at this point is that my hair wasn't feeling all melted and dead and weird. 

So erm....yeah.....this is my hair. The blonding kit worked!!! This is blow dried not straightened; not sure if my hair csn take 230 degrees heat at the moment.  (Sorry abut my nightie!! lol)

Friday morning I was still blonde and I was still scared to straighten it so I did a fishtail braid. I had people pulling at it thinking it was a clip in plait. I had people ask if I had extensions. And I had a lot of looks at horror.

I honestly don't know how I feel about my hair as a whole. I'm really happy with the colour just for the fact that I never thought I could be this blond. I'm really impressed with the products used. As a whole? It's not ombre at its best is it? Oh well. It's only hair!
