How to: Wash a faux fur collar

Washing the Dog!!

Random post but one that I could have done with reading!

I've had my black raccoon faux fur collar for a few months now and am embarrassed to say that yesterday was the first time I washed it due to laziness (and fear).

My ebay purchase didn't have any washing instructions and I couldn't even really depend on help from google because I didn't know for sure what it was made from.

But it got to the point where I would either have to wash it or buy a new one so I did some basic research about faux fur and decided to hand wash mine using Woolite (I use this to wash my merino wool cardigans too fyi).

I just ran some warm water into my sink and used a generous amount of Woolite (the pink one btw) and then swished black raccoon and all black (didn't need it but thought I might as well) in the sink and gently rubbed the fur (basically the same as I imagine you would do washing a pet)

The water was absolutely flithy! I was going to post a pic but it was kinda nasty :s

So after a few minutes I dumped both collars into my bath and used the shower head to rinse. Again I gently rubbed the fur but I wasn't too rough as I didn't want to lose any fur (the black shed like 3 hairs in the sink, black raccoon was fine!). Once water was running clear for a while I gently squeezed out excess water. I then set up a clothes horse in my bath and let it drip dry for....an hour? A bit more?

Collars were still soaking wet after an hour but you could see the fur starting to become matt and horribe so I gently wrung out the water and then set up a clothes horse in my living room (so that I could watch tv haha) and then I used my blow dryer.

I couldn't blow dry it completely dry because to be honest it was boring and time consuming. So I did both until the hair was looking more normal and then let them air dry.

This morning they are dry and clean, ready to rock and roll :)

Fur and peaches

Hi Guys!

Sorry for the terrible terrible picture quality, posing in artificial light

Just 2 things really:

Peach Melba and black fur collar. Both are mine. Yaaaaaaay!!!!

After wanting wanting wanting Barry M's nail paint in Peach Melba for ages I finally got one (thanks mummy!) - erm, I'll be honest, it was not worth the wait. It's too pastel on me. Then again, it is December so I think I will put this away and give it another go come summer time.

After my love affair with the black racoon fur I purchased another fur collar in black. It turned up on my birthday eve. Love. Nuff said!

A post fur you all :)

Hello!

More faux fur!!!!

Was in Westfield's for a dinner to say bon voyage to my brother as he has gone to Thailand and ended up in a random store selling accessories and jewellery.

The 'cat hat/scarf' (?) is super cute but obviously not a viable purchase even for me.

But [below] OMG how amazing is the muff?!

I've wanted a hand muff for years and years and years but never seen one in a shop before and the ones on ebay look a bit too handmade (because they are, but you know what I mean). But this one is gorgeous. A long hair black faux fur with a hidden zipped pocket in the muff which is a clever addition, and the nicest thing is the chain. The ebay one's have what looks like giant shoe laces but this one has a nice 'gold' chain. I didn't get it becuase it was £25 which I thought was expensive for basically pimped up gloves but online research shows that it's....not a bargain, but a good price.

Really really tempted. Maybe a birthday present or something?

Apart from the price the other thing stopping me is the fact that.....I hate things on my hands. Unless it's a hard hard hardcore snow storm I don't wear gloves so I am a bit worried that I'll end up spending £25 on a oversized furry necklace!!!

Prior faux fur, me, J and C went to Pizza Express and I ate (all to myself) a Padana Romana which is a veggie pizza but I of course asked for pepperoni :) It's my fav pizza express pizza: goats cheese, spinach, red onions and caramelised onion.

Addicted to studs and furs

Hi Guys!

OOTD 1

*Dodgy face pic*

I wore my DIY studded shirt again, and this time I tied a black ribbon to keep the neck closed (ribbon from ebay 99p). I wore the shirt tucked into a black mini skirt. I looked like a jazzed up waitress.

First day wearing my fur! FYI The colour I got was 'black racoon' and I'm really happy with my choice, it complements my colouring and wardrobe really well. I wore it every day this week. (Also got a black faux fur on the way!) Both £11.99 inc p+p from ebay.

Worn with a black elbow sleeved jacket from dorothy perkins. You can wear the faux fur like a collar (opened) but there is also an elastic on the underside that you can tuck the end in (as pictured).

OOTD 2

Leopard print, raccoon and rabbit skin - I kid I kid!!

Outfit basically the same as yesterday but with a leopard print blouse and my greenish gap jacket.
