Lent

This post is up a bit late, but have you given up anything for Lent?

I had the intention of giving up my hair straighteners (massive sacrifice!!) and it is proving a challenge....that I continuously fail at!

So on Shrove Tuesday (March 8th) I decided that I would give up eye shadow and hair straighteners. Morning of Wednesday 9th I wake up full of good intentions but after I've washed and dried my hair (hair dryer is a-ok) I just cannot face the house looking like a frizzy zombie, so I striaghtened it. And then my face was so blah that I had to put on a ton of eyeshadow. Went to work feeling sheepish after falling at the first hurdle, but looking great ;)

So Thursday I dried shampoo'd and had my hair out so that didn't really count as a fresh start so ignore that day.

Friday I again wake up with good intentions and this time I fulfill them!!

It's been just over a week of my 'Lenting' and I hope Jesus appreciates my attempts. It's the thought that counts right?

I'll be honest; I have not fully straightened my hair since the Lenting begun but hair straighteners have touched the front of my hair a few times.

Here's some pics from the past week (in a random order). As you can tell, I've been embracing bobby pins and hairspray.



Gently easing myself into my Lenting...This was my first proper Lenting hairstyle. I just washed and blowdried and then straightened a tiny tiny bit of the front strands. By lunchtime my hair looked like I'd been rubbing balloons all over it.

Working with 'second day hair' from the above pic, I just rolled and pinned it up. The quiffy bit just happened naturally. The back isn't quick a bun....more of a croissant LOL But the volume of the front balances it out.

I feel very self conscious with my hair up and out of my face and even if the style comes out nice I always feel quite shite to be honest. But anything for Jesus!! And this Lenting thing is good for me too; teaches me...something.

Happy St Patricks Day!! Dressed in green (i wore a black skirt over the dress to go to work) and I'm rocking the hairstyle which has gotten the most comments.

I just started from my parting and rolled back (about an inch or two) round my head until I reached the back of my head (all the way to my ear) and had a side pony tail. I then roughly pinned my 'roll' and pony and quickly rolled the front part of hair (same side as pony) and tied up my hair. I then did a messy fishtail braid and TA DA!! I guess from the front it's like a pretend victory roll? I don't know, but that's where I got my inspiration from.

This is from dress down Friday at work. I think my hair is getting used to not being straightened as this is the same 'style' as the first pic posted. Washed, dried and straightened a tiny tiny bit at the front. You can tell from the pic that there's less frizz at the top (though the length is still a big bush but I'm getting used to it).

This is me from yesterday. I was just popping to the shops. Went for my classic big bun. I feel quite proud of myself that yesterday was the first day I reached for my doughnut. Because doing this style everyday would be such a cop out.

My aim for the next fortnight is to get to grips with the front braid - I've given myself 2 weeks because I've been attempting the front braid for ages and really can't do it. I think it's because I don't have a lot of hair on top so it never looks right. I might have to amend it slightly to suit my hair.

Haul: make up, summer prep, hair stuff

Hi Guys!

So yesterday after work I decided to pop into Boots (the one in Liverpool Street station - it's great!).

Funnily enough if you read the previous post ('I've been tangoed') I went into Boots because I wanted to buy some fake tan. I've used loads of tanning lotions; everytime they go on special offer i stock up and they all turn me orange. So i went in with the aim to buy a 'posh' tan, a garnier spray tan or something like that, maybe even St Tropez. But even the decent cheap one's were £15 and to be honest the reason why i think my tans are so dodgy as well as orange is due to my slapdash application technique. So with that in mind i skipped the 'posh' tanners. The one i ending up using yesterday was one i brought last year (oops!) for about £1 from wilkinsons.

Anyway, since I was in Boots I thought it would be rude as well as morally wrong not to have a browse. I wish i bloody didn't though. I wish i picked up a £15 spray tan and left cos i ended up spending nearly £60!!!!! I only have 42p in my bank account :(

From left to right we have:

Elnett Hair Spray in 'normal' - £1.99. I've never been a user of hairspray before. I'm not sure what the point of it was but i've been meaning to get one ever since V came to stay at my house. Her hairstyle (aka not an alaborate up-do) didn't seem the sort that require hairspraying but she did so i thought i would give it a go to. Just got a tiny spray can since i have the feeling this will be a short lived fad.

Expert Dry Shampoo - £1.95. I was meaning to pick up Batiste but i saw this and it was £1 less so i thought 'why not?'. The 'Expert' range is basically Boots' take on the most popular products on the market. At the end of the day dry shampoo is talcum powder out of a nozzle so how wrong could it be?

Satincare in sensitive - £2.99. Summer is hair. Need smooth limbs to complement my orange tan lol I was well gutted because i could see signage for a special deal on the Expert Shaving gel but the whole shelf was out of stock!

Bic Soleil Scent - £3.59 for 4. There were other much cheaper disposable razors but i'm really clumsy with a blade so this one is slightly safer for me. And I've used these before and they're pretty good. I'm thinking of buying an epilator but in my mind that's a very expensive fad (the one i want is over £100!).

All about Eyes serum - £22. This is a total impulse buy. I should stop browsing at make up counters because i always get lured into buying some random piece of crap. This is basically a 'de puffing eye massage roll on'. I have no bags under my eyes or dark circles so i can't even use it and review it so I'm going to give it to my mum. She likes eye stuff.

All about eyes - £20. Basically an eye cream. I love this, it's my favourite eye cream. And I've been meaning to buy this cos I've run out. This is my 4th pot i think. I was going to buy 2, one for me and one for mum, but then got hypnotised by all the marketing for the roll on.

And the white with red piping bag pictured is my free gift for buying two clinique products (has to be treatment product s- no make up!:

It is the 'redness solutions' kit. In my opinion this is the ugliest and skankiest free gift ever. The make up bag is ugly ugly ugly and cheap looking and a stupid shape and size. And the products are laughable. I should have bought my eye stuff at a department store so that i could get my hands on better looking freebies. And the fact that they make you buy 2 treatment products is also a joke. Usually it's one skincare product and whatever. RIP OFF BOOTS SHAME ON YOU.

I did spend a lot of money on crap but it is summer and this is my summer prep kit i guess so hopefully it's more of an investment. And apart from the shaving stuff i doubt i'l have to repurchase the other bits for a few months at least.

I know so far my entries have been mainly beauty/fashion related but I want this blog to be just everything but unfortunately my life of late has been shockingly lame so all i can talk about is lipstick....but i'm trying my best. Please subscribe, read, comment etc.

Hot Hang-outs
I'm not a hot hang-out sort of person. I don't really go anywhere let alone anywhere 'hot' so I'll just interpret this as 'fav place'. This is lame but I love hanging out in my flat. Even if I'm cleaning the bathroom floor I feel like I am on holiday. It's a dream. Otherwise, er, I like hanging out in Nando's!!! There's nothing better then that refill drink machine. LOVE!

Guilty Pleasures
Cheeseeeeeese. It's a guilty pleasure cos I'm lactose intolerant and it makes me sick but it is truly a taste sensationthat is worth the agony.
My other guilty pleasure is stalking people on facebook lmao come on, we all do it!!!
I never really understood the lure before but I have become a youtube addict. I love watching beauty vloggers (Lollipop26, Gossmakeupartist, hollymae20, xteeener, whatstyleistonickle, andreaschoice), funny people (spricket24/karenalloy, kevjumba, happyslip, communitychannel) and people singing (lunazian, and i watched esmee denters prior to the fame which is amazing).

Ipod playlist
Lord, this is going to be even more embaraasing then 'hot hang-outs' if I'm honest. The songs on my ipod are laaaaaame. Really really lame. I love Ne-Yo's 'Get Down Like That' - sloppy but I can play it loud without being ashamed what I'm listening to (unlike when I'm listening to the backstreet boys *blushes*). Alicia Keys 'Wreckless Love' - I've had it for ages but never listened to it till a few months ago cos I was only listening to the obvious 'No one' and 'Like you'll never see me again' - yeah I am a lame lemming. But now WL is my fav and i can warble along. Beyonce 'Sweet Dreams; yay wake me up song. Ok that's enough.

Top TV
Come Dine with Me. Fav ever. I enjoy the food aspect, and mega love the bitching. And I love getting to see their homes. I find it soooo fascinating.
I love Gilmore Girls which was a 7 season American programme but i only know one other person who knows about it (though they recently were showing it on e4).
Gossip Girl - I fancy the girls and the guys. I would say that I am most like Blair: I love alice bands and am a queen bitch. I find it a bit sad that she gets a bit more human each season, i feel let down. Saying that, i hate jenny and it's nothing to do with her being a right cow. She is just plain annoying.
Heroes - Mainly cos I love Milo Ventimiglia (Peter).

Tour-bus reading
I'm not good at picking books for journeys, not because I don't read, but because I love reading and can read a normal size novel in just under 4 hours in average, which means if I spent a whole day reading taking toilet and food breaks I can read 4 books. Which means if i am book packing for a plane journey, or for an actual holiday I would need to take at least 50 books for a 2 week trip which sucks if you need to pack underwear and stuff. But basically, i will read anything. Hi brow, low brow, bible, cereal packet. Not fussy at all.

Film
Hairspray, the Rikki Lake version. If they ever need a Thai Tracy Turnbald I would be the one!!!!
City of God, I was baffled for a bit but then BAM best film ever.
Once a time in american. i think it took me a week to watch this but it is intense and well done.
Film section is short cos frankly i have an attention span of a goldfish, so watching films is quite a torture qnd a bore for me.

Shopping Destination
MBK Thailand pre-makeover. Cheesy crap. Glitzy crap. General crap. I love crap!
Primark - same reason as why i love MBK lol
Oxford Street, London, cos I am a londoner and it would be awful if i didn't say it. Long live Oxford Street, may internet shopping never be the death of you.
