It's me again!!!
On the back of my last couple of posts I wanted to do a post about items which are worth spending more on...
I was actually having a conversation with SF about this the other day but it was about a household product, but after talking about my beloved tweezermans I want to talk about beauty products too (and anything else I can think of).
I'll start with what SF and I were talking about. This product was the second product (after tweezerman's) that made me realise that sometimes it is better to pay more rather than less/you get what you pay for.
Without further ado, let me introduce you to ..........*drumroll*.........
FAIRY LIQUID!!!
When I first moved out (at 18 to Kent Uni) I had the same shopping ethic as I do to this very day; "cheap is better, cheap rules, anyone who buys an expensive product when there is a cheaper alternative is stupid". And so I worked my way through countless bottles of "easy" and "morning fresh" and was never happy and I never knew why.
Fast forward about 6 years and I find myself in penny palace still using cheap washing liquids (and no, i am not affiliated with fairy washing up liquid lol! - or tweezerman's!!) until one day, fairy liquid was on sale. I stocked up purely cos it worked out to be the cheapest option and lo and behold! The scales fell from my eyes!!!!!!!!! How did I (and my dishes) survive all these years without fairy?! Simply put, they did the job and they did the job (very) well. Dishes were clean. End of story. With the cheaper brands I was using a bottle a week (which is amazing since I was only washing my dishes once a week lol!!!) but with fairy the suds lasted much longer and oooooooohh it's amazing.
Do you agree?
Next product is one that I actually don't own but it is my life's aspiration to have a pair before I die - another potential bday/xmas gift...
Shu Uemura's cult product - the best eyelash curler in the world. *curtsy*
I've cheekily pictured the 24k gold limited edition version (rrp £24) because it makes a great gift (I have no shame!) but the normal one rrp's at £18 .....bloody hell, like that's suppose to be a friggin bargain!?
Basically, in terms of justifying the price, it works out the same as my tweezer theory. Buy 1413451 cheap and crap eyelash curlers which equals £X or buy just one amazing eyelash curler which works out over time to be less than £X?
And i guess it must be the price factor because i genuinely did misplace a million tweezers and crappy eyelash curlers but with the 'good stuff' I know where it is 24/7.
(At the moment I'm using god knows what curlers - which are decent to be fair - but as soon as i lose/break them I think I will be getting these. Ek!)
Ok, next up we have my biggest love (which thank god is my mum's biggest love - ker ching!!!)
Louis Vuitton zippy purses. This is going to be a hard task to justify; but it honestly makes sense to me...i think....
The Monogram Canvas:
The Epi:
The Vernis:
They cost between £400-£485 (i think?) but I will use them forever, and if I have children, they will use it too (as my mum did with me...the only one that is 'mine' but paid for by her is, unsurprisingly, the red monogram Vernis. I don't know what I was thinking at the time but whatever, i like it).
I have made the odd hiccup when it comes to buying luxury branded purses but I learned my mistakes very very quickly . I ventured into the realms of the LV 'Sarah wallet, which looks like this:
Now, this purse (not the one pictured but you know what I mean) was the first LV purse that my mum handed down to me. And even though I'm saying I'm not a fan of this style boy did I murder that purse!!!! My mum took it back off me a few years ago, she probably holds it at night crying and cursing me. Oops lol
There's nothing wrong with this style, I think it's gorgeous. But anyone who knows me can probably understand why I prefer the zippy style to the sarah. I never fasten my handbag, nor my purse, nor for that matter the top of my make up, toothpaste, creams and ketchup bottle!!! I like to pick something up, use it and dump it. And frankly, the zippy purse is best for that!!! (Plus I like to carry a lot of crap in it - it's where i stash my stolen argos mini pens!!!
It's not only worth it because of the 'pass it through the generations' factor but also because of it's heavy weight factor. I'm generally the sort of person who's really fussy about what they are wearing. "Oh no, I'm going to get soaked in the rain because I can't carry my umbrella because the silver bit doesn't match my handbag metalwear" - yes I say that frequently. Therefore, I could potentially have owned 234246536532 highstreet purses over the last decade to match all my umbrella's, shoes, coats etc, instead of having a few I rotate (and I don't even rotate them regularly, probably once a year!) and then if you take into account the one's my mum used too (she had a lot of sarahs that i have either killed off or had taken off me) they probably work out to be 1p per wear. BARGAIN!!!
Next up is...Coca Cola!
Now, I'm not a coke drinker, I'm diet coke all the way. But even I know that those own brand cola products are just not good enough. I'm not a total coke snob that I wouldn't drink it, but i know that it's not the same. Even though admittedly with this kind of product, I would buy the cheaper option cos it's only a drink, you're only going to urinate it out no matter how good it tasted. Sorry for using the 'u' word ;)
This next item I'm not too sure about as it's only something I've gotten into recently. But I've already worked my way through a few cans (or bottles?) and I've persoannly concluded that:
Loreal's Elnett hairspray is the best. I've tried to save the pennies by buying different brands: super cheap one's that nearly suffocated me and turned my hair brittle, and other well known brands such as tresemme but only Elnett does the job. And price wise, if you wait for deals at boots or loreal promo's you are not spending anymore then you would on a similar product.
All right, I'm getting really achey from sitting funny and typing so I'm going now.
Comment below, what products do you think are worth it?
