Ombre hair

So I've been a bit bored with my hair lately. Colour is blah and cut is blah. Can't be bothered with any kind of fringe and still wanting it to grow longer so scissors = trim only, no layers, no nothing.

I can't really dye my hair because frankly and honestly, I am losing my hair. It's been happening for a while now (like maybe 2 years?) but now it's reached a point where I can't ignore it and some people (tactless from the shock I guess) have pointed out that I am going bald. Yes I am.

It's sad and scary. I need to see a doctor but I find all that jazz scary too. And plus, pills or special shampoo isn't really going to work miracles otherwise they'd be no bald people in the world!!!

This whole hair thinning thing is what made me decide to do the hair lenting thing. Unfortunately, less styling does not help the hair loss so......*shrugs*

Also, I'm trying to disguise the thinning (FFS the only thin part of me!!) by changing my parting about but it's not a great tactic as the thinning is all on top so eventually........... :(

FUCK. Typing this is making me want to cry. *deep breath in out in out in out*

Erm, so the actual point of this post: OMBRE HAIR!

I don't want to dye my whole head because I don't want to make things worse (not that there is evidence to suggest hair dye would make things worse but better to be safer then even more sorry!).

So I thought I could jump on the ombre hair band wagon. Loads of pro's to doing this:

  • I'll only be dying the ends so no scalp stress
  • As above, will only need to purchase one box of dye as opposed to two = save a bit of money
  • Don't need to worry about roots coming through (because it has taken me ages to grow out my colour)
  • Maybe I can try to go blond (.......or maybe not!)
Realistically I will probably end up with orange ends as per usual with any colour box dye but hey, orange is good. At least I'll get the 'want' out of my system!

If you aren't sure what I'm going on about please google image ombre hair. I don't want to post pics of celebs 'just in case'.

A lot of the images show a few inches of 'root' and then lightened hair but I am thinking most root and then colour from whatever hair is past my shoulders. I think that this will be easiest to do (tie my hair into a pony tail and dip the ends) and it will be easiest to upkeep.

I'm still in the thinking stage so.........we'll see, I'll keep you guys posted.

Good Friday catch up

Catch up in bullet point form:
  • Went to buy more MUA face powder but my local Superdrugs was totally sold out; I mean, there was no MUA face powder at all :( Hopefully they will restock soon.
  • A bit disappointed with my asos haul but kinda glad I need to return so much because my credit card is maaaaaaaaaaxed out.
  • Finished my garnier self tan mosituriser and am now using dove with soft shimmer, which leaves me looking like an orange Cullen (twilight reference aka I am glittery). I don't mind being glittery :)
  • Since it is Good Friday I guess I should mention the hair lenting...........as you may have noticed from my OOTD posts, the hair straighteners have been put to use :( I only had one week to go but I just needed some big smmothish hair to take me into spring. I couldn't do bare legs and up-do's, made me feel to exposed. So I do feel bad, but I tried. I might start thinking now what I'll give up for next Lent!!!
  • To avoid too much duplication I thought that I'd just show you my haulage when I actually wear it but I guess close up pics would be good.....I don't know. So lazy recently. We'll see.
Erm, ok, that's pretty much it I think. I felt I had more to day but my mind has gone back. They are just about to solve the crime on CSI NY lol

Hope you all enjoy the long Bank Holiday weekend xxxx

OOTD x2

Hello,

Two 'outfit of the days' for you.

London has been lovely and sunny this week. I'm happy that I started fake tanning (going really well!) when I did because I've been doing a lot of leg baring towards the end of the week.

[Above] Firstly, sorry about the lighting! I wore this on Monday and it was a great start to the week. One of my new dresses from ASOS, a beige cape back dress. I will try to capture the cape back soon as that is what the dress is all about. The front is just blah, but I love blah so yay lol Teamed the dress with a wide tan belt, black tights and my new primark nude ballet pumps. Of course I accessorised with my asos watch and star chord bracelet (and cut up tights haha!!).

[Above and Below] My fav thing about Monday's outfit was the entire look. I wore my spring go-to Gap mac, my new primark scarf (do you love it!? I DO!!) and I carried my junk in my tan medium satchel primark bag (not pictured).

[Below]

I think this is what I wore on Tuesday, simply judging by the fact my hair parting has flipped over from Monday lol

Really simply but really 'springy' for me. It's a shame all the colour are washed out because amazing I am not wearing anything black, cream or nude!!

I am wearing a Gap men's grandad shirt, a very subtle blue and white stripe (just looks baby) tucked into my Dorothy Perkins charcoal grey jersey tulip(ish) skirt and I stuck a tan belt around the waist. I am wearing my new primark leopard print pumps teams with my bare legs yaaaaaaaay!

No cardi, coat or scarf. Spring is here!!!

How have you guys transitioned into spring?

Are you still holding onto your uggs or are you rocking flip flops yet?

NOTD x2

Hi Guys,

Just a quick post, two 'nail of the day' photo's.

[Above] Nude nails with one black glitter nail. Got a few comments - some people got it, some people didn't. I think that I might be partly to blame for doing nude and black. This 'look' might be more easier to 'get' if I used brights. But I do work in an office so I don't want to turn up with blue and green nails.......which leads on to my next NOTD

[Below] I just did my nails now. A bright orange. I was actually going to do orange and one mint green nail (I don't know what I was thinking) but I liked this colour so much I just stuck to the one collour. You like?

P&G / OOTD

Last week was inspired by Chanel and boy meets girls, this week was all about girl meets girl in my d&g inspired poofy skirt and ruffly blouse (both from Gap).

My fake tan is coming along very well btw. I am not streaky which is amazing and I've had a few bare legs day so I'm happy with it. I am a bit orange/yellow tinged but I guess this is as good as it will be. I guess with my race I'm not going to find a fake tan that really compliments my natural colour. I would look for fake tans from Asia but they are so obsessed with being as white as possible I don't think fake tan exists. When I was last in Thailand I was trying to get some face powder and it only came in white and Casper white! My cousins found it very odd that I wore fake tan and bronzer.

Each to their own I guess :)

Wrist Candy

Hi Guys,

I got my asos package the other day and it was a bit hit and miss but these are two things that I really like and I've worn them every day since I received them :)

As regular readers know I've been really really wanting a watch for a while now but my budget/allergies didn't give me much scope.

However, with an asos sale on I thought that now was a good time to give it a go so I got myself a cheap watch (sale price was £14!!!!). It's 'gold' and 'silver' and very very plain with a big face. I love it!! And it feels so nice to have a watch on my wrist. I feel grown up and polished and it adds a bit of pow to my plain outfits.

I know what you are thinking......£14, 24 karat gold?! Erm, no it's not. What I've done is cut up a pair of 'flesh' coloured 15 denier tights (width of the watched) and I wear it under my watch!!! Yes, it does show but hey, I don't care, at least I get to wear my watch and there's no itching involved.

The other item I am happy with is that....black thread lol It really is just a black thread with a 'gold' star on it. I just wear that with my watch and it kinda takes away from the tights lol

Don't bin it, bay it!

Hi Guys!!

I've been trying to sell stuff on ebay recently and it's going ok. I'm just trying to get rid of stuff and make a bit of money. The hard thing is trying not to buy junk to fill up the space I've made lol

I've had some successes; pictured below:

So far I put up probably 15 items in the past 30 days because there has been two free insertion days so I thought I would give it a go since it was free and I had nothing to lose.

My main problem is knowing how much to charge for p+p without ripping off the buyer and without short changing myself. What I'm doing is looking at similar items on sale to get an idea of how much to charge. I've had a few hits and misses but I think overall I've done ok.

I would like to make more of an effort with my packaging but at the moment I'm pretty much just stuffing the items into a padded envelope. One time (at band camp lol) I wrapped a dress in hot pink floral wrapping paper and lovingly popped it into the padded envelope but that buyer hasn't even left me feedback and it's been two weeks (I've got 50 stars 100% as of today yay me!!!) so I've gone back to shoving. I don't even write a note saying "here's your ebay item" but I figure that they must realise when they see the item.

Fingers crossed for another free insertion day soon because I have loooooads of junk to get rid of!!! Are you an ebay seller? Any tips for me?

x

Taco Bell

I went to Taco Bell for the first time the other day.

Before:

After:

Primark make up?

Got these two bargains from Primark - a bronzer and a nail polish.

The bronzer was originally £2.50 and I got it for £1 and the polish I got for 50p!!! (I think RRP was £1).

I've never had make up from Primark before but it seems ok. I'm a bit worried that the bronzer will break me out but I guess if I don't try I won't know.

The nail polish seems to be pretty good. I popped on one coat onto top of nails inc denim so tbh I'm not sure how opaque it is but it looks gorgeous. A black with fine gold glitter. ATM it's a bit high school disco on my long nails but I think it would quite quirky on a short nail.

The bronzer is massive and the packaging says it's for face and body. It's got a really cute leopard pattern which has already been destroyed with my swatch. I must say that when I swatched it I was....shocked. The pigmentation is amazing for £1 but holy cow, how would I wear that colour!? It's like gold mud. I haven't tried it properly yet, only for the purpose of this post, but hopefully once you work it into the skin it will give you a nice bronzed colour.

HAve you tried any make up from Primark? Any must -haves or must-avoids?

Tayyabs in Whitechapel

Hi Guys!

A bit late posting but...

April 1st me and my work buddies went to eat at Tayyubs in Whitechapel, as two of us were leaving to join new teams. I'd never been before but had heard plenty of good things about it. They do Punjabi cuisine, which I am not keen on (asian indian type food) but the food was good.

I've never been to a place like it (well, I don't get out much to be fair) but the place was rammed pack inside, and on the street crowds of people were waiting to eat.

And the good thing about this place for you drinkers is that it's 'bring your own drink' which if you are organised enough means party time!!

I would recommend this place just for the experience. I found it very similiar to China Town's Wong Kei. Eat, pay, get the f*ck out. But the food is fast, fresh and nice and hey, a million people can't be wrong can they?

A blah blah blah

Woo hoo its 21:20 and I am awake! It's been such a long and boring weekend that now I can't sleep.

Yesterday I did nothing.

Today I did nothing.

Yay(!)

Actually Saturday was like the zombie apocalypse. On a day like that I really really miss having a Saturday job!!! And the worst thing about Saturday was 'Mamma Mia!'. Holy crap it was a huge pile of shite. That's nearly two hours of my life I will never get back :(

Today was not so bad. I tidied a bit. I watched a lot of CSI. And I got an email from ASOS about their mid season sale preview.....

Credit card says "OUCH!!!!!" lol Because I am a VIP (I love retail psychology!) I get to shop the sale before it starts (tomorrow if you are interested). And of course it would have been rude not to browse. And then save items. And then add items to basket. And dump some items. And pay.

Initially I had £679 worth of junk in my basket. And that's with the discounted price!! After a lot of ummung and arring I ended up paying just over £200 for 13 items and free next day delivery (which is Tuesday since I order past the cut off time) but I order a few duplicate items in different sizes so really I think I spent just over £100...I tried to be as sensible as possible. And it has been ages since I hauled so I don't feel too awful. Until I friggin blogged it. ARGH.

No, I am cool. I need a bit of cheering up, and plus I'll probably return a lot of it and end up with one black dress lol

Oh! I also applied my fake tan today. Both the lotion and the spray. It definitely wasn't showing around 6pm when the natural light was showing and now I am covered in the glow of the yellow light bulb so I have no idea if I am white, orange or a beautiful bronzed (fingers crossed for the latter!!!!!!!)

I am suppose to apply the lotion everyday so I'll be swapping out my baby oil for it. Hopefully I don't become slack and forget to pre-moisturise my ultra dry bits (elbows, ankles, knees).

I really really hope that my 'tan' doesn't transfer to my bedsheets. That would be just my luck, I stay white, my bed goes bronze!

I hope you all had a more fun filled weekend xxx

Bedtime

Omg I've found something else I want to spend my money on!

I want a massive bling bling pimping headboard!

Tango time!

It's that time of the year again - time to bust on the fake tan!!!

Remember last year? (click for photos)

http://onepennye.blogspot.com/2010/06/ive-been-tangoed.html

Well hopefully this year will be less embarrassing and orange lol

[L] I got the Garnier Ambre Solaire medium bronze for light skin. There's so much bloody writing on the bottle it's a bit confusing but fingers crossed.

[R] I also got the Garnier summer body lotion for a light sun skinned look. I didn't mean to get all garnier products but they were on promotion so of course I had to go for these!

Please wish me luck. I am a bit scared after the trauma of last year!

Spring products

Three days of sun means a post on spring products is due!

The first product I've been meaning to blog about for a while now. Superdrugs' make up brand 'MUA' (Make up academy) - pressed powder. I only grabbed it in desperation because I'd hit pan on my clarins and didn't have time to go to a make up counter. As you can see from the pictures I have already hit pan - that's down to two things:

1) I use it to set my face everyday

2) It's kinda powdery (not on the face but the texture of the powder...hhhmmm powdery powder) so when you put your make up brush it loosens quite quickly. This might seem like a bad thing but this product was £1!!!!!!!!

It hasn't caused me to break out and despite being powdery it isn't cakey on the face. I've read review which says it smells like baby talc but a) I can't smell and b) talc isn't the worst smell, at least it doesn't smell like sardines right?

I am ready to repurchase this item. This one is Shade 3 - I probably needed a lighter shade but now that the sun is out Shade 3 is probably right for me now. Hey, at £1 I might splash out on two!! lol

Seriously though, this is the 3rd MUA product I've tried (this, 2 eyeshadows and a clear mascara that I use on my eyebrows - all £1) and I think they are amazing value and quality. I'd pay more and that is high praise indeed.

Spring time perfumes!! Even though I can't usually smell myself I put on perfume for other people. Work colleagues, people squashing me on the bus etc

My fav 'springy' scents at the moment are: [L] Katie Price's Stunning, which actually I haven't had a 'smell day' whilst wearing so no idea what this smells nice but I know it's light rather than musky; and [R]Hugo Boss' Orange which is fruity and fresh. I'm also using a lot of men's perfumes. I might do a little collection post.

Two hair products which I am using more or less everyday:

[black spray bottle] Tresemme's heat protectant. I usually use the Loreal Studio Hot Straight (which is great), but this had a few quid off and I fancied a change. So anyway, I am not a fan of Tresemme products (my mum uses the shampoo and condition and it doesnt work for me) but I really like this product. It has a nice fruity smell and the nozzle gives a nice light even spray and also covers a wide space which is good when you have longer hair because you don't want to overload your hair with product nor leave any of it unprotected. The only thing with this product I don't really like is the spray thing - I find it awkward to use the finger trigger (thats the best way I can describe it!) - which is funny because that's probably way it sprays out the product so well. I say, 4 out of 5 stars.

[white and gold spray] This is Schwarzkopf Gliss Hair Repair - shine tonic. I've actually had this for about 2 years and never really used it. You're suppose to spray it onto your finished style to give a light shine without greasiness (kinda like hairspray without the hold!!!!) and I didn't use it because I was worried I would be tooo shiny (don't ask why I bothered buying it in the first place) but recently I have been using this a few times a week, it has been a very useful product in light of my hair lenting; it made the frizz nice and shiny lol. You can also use this product on towel dried hair as a sort of leave in conditioner detangler but again, you have to be careful of not being too shiny/greasy.

Don't you love just how colourful and bright these products are? Just having them on my dresser makes the world a bit more sunnier:)

Two lip and two hair products -

[clockwise from top left]

[carmex] This is a winner throughout the seasons. Soothes dry chapped winter lips, and adds a nice shine in the spring.

[cocoa butter vaseline lip therapy] I bought this just to try out and at first it was sitting in my drawer but now I really like it. I just apply it in the morning and at night, just a twist on a well loved product.

[twisted sista/urban therapy] I picked this up in poundland (for £1 duh!).What a gem!! A really thick serum that tames the frizz on straight and curly hair. I'd def recommend using this very very sparingly, a little goes a long way. You can use this on wet or dry hair. I've only used it to finish my style but its nice and gummy which I like. I pump a tiny tiny tiny drop into my palm and rub my hands together and then quickly and light swipe my hands over my hair.

[Batiste tropical] I've raved about this dry shampoo before but since it's spring now I'm using the tropical version which is suppose to have an exotic smell and does the same job as all the other versions.

all this Spring talk, isn't it Summer yet!?

What products do you use to make you feel spring-like?

Spring 2011 Wishlist / Spring Resolution

I think it can be agreed that I have been well behaved shopping-wise lately. But now that the sun is shining I am feeling the shopping itch and it needs to be scratched!!!

So I've already mentioned some stuff I wanted:

Tiffany gold ring and chain
Mulberry Mini Daria Messenger for ipenny
Erm, a rolex

Those things are still much wanted and here's adding to the list:

I've come to realise that a Rolex is a bit out of my price range:

So there's a Michael Kors that I've been wanting since I subbed to Laura / Lollipop26. I don't have a particular style I want yet. Big, gold and chunky. This one is about £180:

For a cheaper version, and feeding my love for a more harder girly look there's this:

Asos £25!!!!

The problem with both is....can't wear them. Band is not 18k gold and up. Back is stainless steel and worse. I need to keep saving for my Rolex :( But one day, I promise myself, I will own a watch and wear it and be happy and not break out!

This next item is a bit random, but I saw Michelle Phan/Rice Bunny rave about it and I want one too. After I fell off the lenting band wagon I've been wearing my hair in a deeeep side parting and that equals fluffiness and a million fly aways so....

Osis Stick Up. Its like a giant glue stick to tame baby hairs, broken hairs and fuzz. YAY! I've been doing my online research and its def under £10...£6 would be a good price. But I'm trying for under £5 cos you know i am cheap like that ;) And for those of you thinking "er, hairspray?!" i have tried hair spray. lightly spritzing from the top. And also combing it through. Doesn't work. I am a bit worried that Stick up might be a bit toooo heavy/greasy but I am a brave woman :)

I think that's about it actually. I just really really want a watch. If this craving was winter I could buy anything and wear it over my cardigan sleeve but it is spring so no cardigan sleeves for me.

I am going to try very hard not to buy any footwear or bags. I'm currently selling some shoes on ebay (as well as some clothing items). I need to get my shoes out in a way that they are visible and so that I wear them. Otherwise i am stuck in a vicious cycle of buy buy buy store store store and never ever wear. Which means I end up with a million shoes stuck sittting at the bottom of my wardrobe. And so that is my spring resolution - make the most of what i have!

ABC's of me

It's been a while since I've done a tag post but I've found this floating around on the internet so I thought I'd give it a go. There are a few different versions but this one seems ok.

I tag anyone reading this!

B – Bed size: Double. My first ever double bed when I got penny palace. And I sleep curled up on one side because I've been so used to my single. I wonder when my body will learn to just stretch out.

C – Chore you hate: I hate them all. Well, I'm sure I would if I ever did any chores lol I guess the chore i hate most is dusting. I just don't understand it. Moving your dirt around - isn't it better just piled up and stationary rather than flying around the air?!

D – Dog - what about dogs?

E – Essential start your day item: Eyeliner! I don't feel that I can start my day until I have eyeliner on. Even if I was squeaky clean and dressed to the 9's I couldn't start the day without a ton of eyeliner.

F – Favorite colour: Pink! <3

G – Gold or Silver: Are we talking jewelry? When I was younger it was silver all the way but now I'd def say gold. If you are offering to buy me a gift I'd be grateful for either, or both :) lol

Lent hair - week 4

Hi Guys!

Hope you have had a nice week in the sun!

4th week of 'lenting' and erm, I think I have officially fallen off the wagon :( The pics below are just two days, and only one was a ponytail day.

Pic with hair 'done' was my outfit of the day (OOTD) for mother days. I felt really good on Mothering Sunday and then ended up getting frazzled next to the open kitchen. But it was fun and nice to be with the family.

All the pics below are from the same day. Took loads of pictures because it was such a different look for me aka I wore trousers!!!

I am loving my studded clutch - it was from Primark (last year) and £8. I also have the olive/khaki/minky version which I got on sale for £3! I know it doesn't seem practical but I've actually carried it to work every day the past week. And it's way more spacious then my nude Zara bag.

The look for my OOTD was 'boy meets girl'. Clothes and hair was pure boy (grandad bib shir.t, black blazer with stripey cuffs, skinny black trousers) and then extras were girly - beigey dress mac from Gap, patent and gold chain pumps from Primark, my current fav clutch.

I don't know if I will be able to wear this look again because for some reason I think really skinny that day but since then I've been eating cadbury's creme eggs and apple crumble for breakfast so....lol

Anyway, I hope everyone is well. Though I have been crap this week with the lenting I am going to try to get back onto the wagon...we'll see.

Hope it is sunny next week and hope everyone has a great weekend x

Lent hair - week 3

Hi Guys,

3rd week of Lent - did badly this week. 3 hair straightener days and 2 non-hair straighteners day (missing a pic of one cos it was terrible!!)

Had a really tough week so having nicer hair helped me make it through. TBH the rest of Lent is going to be tough - life isn't so great at the moment - so i will try my best with my hair lenting but *shrugs* we'll see!
